A Legacy of Excellence Since 1927

Metcalfe Real Estate has a proud history of serving the Taranaki region for nearly a century. Originally established on October 13, 1927, as E Dixon and Co. Limited, the company initially specialised in the retail and repair of musical instruments.

In 1950, the late George Ranford took over the business and integrated real estate and valuation services, laying the foundation for what would become one of Taranaki's leading real estate firms. Under George's leadership, the company thrived, adapting to the changing needs of the local community.

On June 1, 1984, Selwyn Metcalfe joined the business as Manager, working alongside George Ranford. Later that year, on October 18, George sold his business and shareholding interest, and Selwyn Metcalfe assumed the role of Managing Director. From that point, the company focused exclusively on real estate, building a reputation for trust, integrity, and results.

In a significant transition on April 1, 2020, Scott Roberts became a director and shareholder of Selwyn Metcalfe Ltd. This marked a new chapter for the business, as Scott brought with him a deep connection to the company’s legacy—his grandfather’s cousin, George Ranford, had originally acquired the business in 1950. Recognising the need for a refreshed brand identity, the company rebranded as Metcalfe Real Estate, while maintaining its commitment to exceptional service and local expertise.

By April 2022, Scott Roberts had taken on the role of sole director, leading Metcalfe Real Estate into a new era while upholding the company’s strong values and dedication to excellence. Selwyn Metcalfe transitioned into a consultant role, continuing to contribute his wealth of industry knowledge.
